The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. It aims to give people control over their personal data: who holds it, and what it can be used for.

The GDPR becomes enforceable on 25 May 2018 after a two-year transition period, replacing the 1995 Data Protection Directive.
