Up until now Flinders University has had a silo-approach to timetabling with 14 schools choosing their preferred times, dates, and rooms and rolling over the timetable annually. With a new plaza redevelopment and student hub on the horizon the university decided to enhance the functionality and transparency of the timetabling system by centralising the function.
For the changes to be accepted the decision had to be endorsed from the top-down and was spearheaded by senior management. The project required the joint effort from the university, Cyon (sister company to Scientia) and the existing student records system.
With Enterprise Foundation installed the centralised timetable team had instant access to data, reporting on number of students on-site to pressure on traffic flow and parking issues on campus. Longer term the team were able to conduct modelling exercises to assist the university in future planning of teaching spaces and meet the demand of increasing student numbers enrolling year on year.
Since its release the timetable has been working well and been able to respond to the fluctuations in enrolment. The centralised timetable team can now manage resources and ensure clash-free pathways as well as efficiently utilise all spaces within the institution.
