In October, staff at our Cambridge office held a baking competition in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Following in the footsteps of contestants on the wildly-popular BBC programme, the Great British Bake Off, bakers had their cakes judged on appearance and taste. Slices were sold at £1 each with all profits going to the charity, whose aim is to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Following an intense day of eating and judging, the Best Taste award went to Matt Boyd, IT Systems Administrator, for his Raspberry Opera cake, with the award for Best Presentation going to Claire from Finance – who organised the event – for her ‘Cake with Balls’!
Claire said: “Thank you to everyone who spent the time and money to bake cakes this year. We had a broad range of entries, showcasing the diversity of talents here: some had great taste, others had grand design; it was an extremely impressive collection of cakes, as the pictures show! The bar has been set very high for next year!”
The cake sale itself raised £245 which Scientia will match, so Macmillan will receive a cheque for £500. A great day for a great cause.
