Unlike the EMEA User Conference ASPRG is organised by the users for the users. This year Western Sydney University took up the baton of hosting and did a fantastic job of putting together a wonderful conference. Delegates enjoyed a wide selection of topics this year, including Bring Your Own Device session hosted by Scientia, where they got to try and test the new Syllabus Plus Anywhere software in a working environment.
Other highlights from the conference included: Michael Burgess, Chief Student Experience Officer at Western Sydney University opening the conference with how institutions are embracing best practise to enhance their students’ interactions with students.
Donna Smith, from University of Newcastle discussed how they are using WDC to enforce data quality to ensure that the data collected is accurate and the source of truth whilst Caroline Carlish, Griffith University spoke about lessons learned from their rolling timetable project.
Day 2 of the conference started with Cyon staff attempting to juggle. Whilst very amusing for the crowds the point that Nikki and Emily from University of Wollongong were demonstrating is how hard it is to attain funding because timetabling teams find it difficult to produce consolidated reports. The point was even more emphasised with the development of Syllabus Plus Anywhere and the need for the software to produce useful an easy to generate reports.
Curtin University wanted a single source of truth when it came to assigning casual staff to activities. Their presentation demonstrated how they used EAA to help assign casual staff to activities. Choosing four faculties to pilot the deployment of staff the university was able to save $2.3 million and create a single source of truth.
The AGM kicked off day 3, and welcomed Cheryl Edwards, from Flinders University as the new Chair Person to the committee, Caryn Bates, is Vice Chair. The University of Adelaide have kindly agreed to host the conference next year.
Our thanks go to Western Sydney University for hosting the conference, the committee for helping to shape the conference and to all the presenters willing to share their experience.
