Scientia is delighted to welcome another new client in 2018: Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland.
We originally met with Abertay in early 2017 to discuss a potential electronic room display/Resource Booker project. This grew into a full review of its timetabling system and processes, and a successful tender via the APUC framework.
As a result, we are supplying a comprehensive academic timetabling, resource scheduling and integration solution to Abertay, including:
- Enterprise Foundation (with upgrade to Syllabus Plus Anywhere planned during the five-year contract)
- Connect integration with Abertay’s student records system, SITS
- Resource Booker
- Exchange Connect, enabling integration of timetable information with Outlook calendars
- Exam Scheduler
- Student Allocator
Abertay was originally established in the 19th century as a ‘mechanics’ institute’, and was one of the first to be designated a central institution, akin to an ‘industrial university’. It continues to have a vocational focus and is associated with Dundee’s rise as a centre for computer game development.
Abertay was the first University in the world to offer a computer games degree, and the first in the UK to be recognised as a Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education. It was also the first to offer a degree in Ethical Hacking, starting in 2006.
The University is also home to world-leading research teams, whose discoveries are hailed internationally. It is Scotland’s leading university for environmental science research, with leading-edge initiatives such as the SIMBIOS unit exploring soil bioinformatics, the Abertay Centre for the Environment promoting ‘green’ business practices, and the Urban Water Technology Centre developing innovative new drainage and pollution-control technology.
