Fully automated scheduling
Enterprise Timetabler supports fully automated scheduling, if desired. The user can define the requirements for each teaching activity; the students being taught, the resource requirements and any hard constraints on the timing of the activity. The automated scheduling engine will then set about finding a solution.

Manual control
The user may also take manual control of the process at any point. Resource allocations can be preset and timing of activities can be set as a hard constraint. Even when timetabling manually, the full power of the scheduling engine is retained, warning of hard constraint violations and advising on availability and timetable quality while the user tests candidate solutions.

Hybrid solution
Within the same institution there may be some activities that are timetabled manually and others that are automatically scheduled. Even within the same activity there may be some aspects that are preset (e.g. the activity must be taught by a particular member of staff) while others remain flexible (e.g. the activity requires a room of a particular type and capacity).
