Scientia, global leader in resource scheduling and timetabling solutions for higher education appoints Totvs to extend its reach into the Brazilian market

Cambridge, England - 28 October 2014

Scientia, global leader in resource scheduling, optimisation and timetabling solutions for universities worldwide has formed a partnership with Totvs, the largest supplier of student record systems to the Brazilian higher education market – a strategic move which will further extend Scientia’s reach into the region.

TOTVS is the leading company in the development and trading of integrated business management software and service provision in Brazil and Latin America. TOTVS supplies a broad portfolio of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Educational Management products and services for HE institutions. Its clients include 700 public and privately funded universities, half of which use the company’s student record system for the effective recruitment and retention of students.

The partnership will enable Totvs to further enrich its higher education portfolio with the addition of Scientia’s suite of scheduling and timetabling applications, which it will sell via 52 business units spread across the country.  The Scientia suite incorporates Enterprise Foundation for planning and timetabling/scheduling, Web Room Booking, Academic Staff Workload Planner and Web Data Collector. Totvs and Scientia have already jointly developed an interface which integrates Scientia’s scheduler and Totvs’ student record system. Its powerful, easy-to-use timetabling solution facilitates fully automated scheduling, entirely manual scheduling, or a combination of the two. Unlike manual scheduling, Enterprise Foundation selects available slots automatically, dynamically anticipating scheduling questions the user might ask.  It integrates seamlessly with Student Records, Human Resources and Estates systems to reduce time spent manually inputting information, thus saving institutions money.

Commenting on the new partnership, Gustavo Bastos, the Educational sector director at Totvs, said, “We are delighted to establish this partnership – the addition of Scientia’s expertise will help us better meet the needs of our customers and achieve our objective to make them more competitive. Furthermore, it will help to improve student engagement by creating personalised timetables for students and staff.  That´s the kind of benefit which TOTVS always wants to bring to its customers”.

Also of great value to TOTVS´ clients will be Academic Staff Workload Planner, making it easier and cheaper for university departments to allocate staff time and to plan, deliver and manage courses, and Web Data Collector, designed to save time and administrative effort collecting timetabling data from departments.

Commenting on the partnership, Tim Porter, Head of Global Sales and Marketing at Scientia, said, “We have a lot to offer HE institutions in Brazil and are very much looking forward to helping customers within this region. Our track record speaks for itself - Scientia’s solutions are trusted by close to 500 organisations in 36 countries across 6 continents.  Our timetabling software is available in 17 languages including Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish.“
